Back-to-School 2013-2014

Yes it's that time again, summer just goes by to fast. The first day of school is Monday, August 19. Breakfast starts at 7:45 am and the first bell is at 8:00 am. School officially start at 8:05 am. The first day will be an early out at 12:35.  Junior high and high school students will go to the gym when the 8:00 bell rings, elementary students will go to their classrooms. We want to welcome our new students to our school and best wishes to those that have left us.

There have been a few changes with faculty and staff in our building this year. Our new Superintendent is now Mr. Alley, our new Principal is now Mr. Mitchell and I have also moved into the position of part-time Counselor. New to high school this year is Mr. Betts, he will be the Social Studies teacher and the boys basketball coach. Mrs. Preston will be the girls softball coach this year. Elementary music will be taught by Sarah Clark on Tuesdays. Wilma Graber is the new janitor and Nick Steinhurst will be leaving for a new job. Best wishes to all.

Other things new to the building this year that will effect everyone will be the way people and students enter the building throughout the day. From 8:00 am to 3:00 pm the west door (parking lot door) will be locked, as will all the doors, and you will have to enter the building through the door on the north side (front of the building).  Everyone will need to stop at the new window that has been installed so they can check in.  This is just the first of some of the safety precautions that will be implemented in the school over time.  Also when you stop at the window check out how Kristy and Tori have redone the office, it looks so nice. Great job ladies.

Sports will also take on a new look in some areas.  Our junior high boys (7th, 8th and 9th grades) will  co-op with Pattonsburg this year to play football. All home games will be played at Pattonsburg on their new field. There will be no boys softball team this year. The girls softball team will be sporting a new look this year with new uniforms. Gilman City has a great following when it comes to sports and the students and coaches greatly appreciate it. Please continue to support our students in the changes this year.

Also I want to thank everyone that is using this blog. I will try my best to keep information on here daily. Also if there is something that will be going on outside of our building that will involve our students and you would like to see it mentioned on here please give me your information and I will post it. I know we have students that are involved in different sports, 4-H, church, volunteer work, or other things, so please let me know if you are a coach, parent or leader of any of these activities and would like information posted.

Remember to read and return student information to the school when your student brings it home. It is very important that Kristy and Tori have phone numbers on hand so they can contact you in case your child gets sick or needs something.  Please check out the free alert messaging at Farmer Bank. You can sign up for free to receive notices from the school.

Well here we go another new year. WELCOME BACK!
